Im new to this board but I thought I put this topic up for discussion. I came across this concept during my search on a career in dentistry. I know someone has an opinion about it. Apparently dental spas are taking off in big cities.
Spa dentistry has been discussed briefely on here before. Based on what I have heard, it is done mostly at offices that do cosmetic dentistry and do smile make overs. This is mostly to attract more patients, offer a "complete" make over, and find a way to charge even more!! I know which ever type of practice i decide to get into, i'll at least hire a massage therapist for my crown patients!
I came across this idea last year at a state dental convention I attended. Basically there was a booth with some attractive hygenists and I wanted to talk to them so they told me all about it - I think whatever type of practice I end up in I want to implement several of the ideas and make it as comfortable of an environment as I can for the patients. It might not be called a "spa dental practice" but if they have a good experience (different from any dental experience they've ever had) they're definately going to tell others about it and the practice will surely grow. And I'd enjoy working in that environment as well.
