I am wondering how much dental terminology we have to know for interviews. If so, what types of them are typically asked? Thank you guys 🙂

None, for my 4 interviews, they never ask anything related to dentistry procedures.

Make sure you know all the ways to properly use a dental dam.

yeah i don't think i was ever asked at my previous interviews but some might ask you (if you said on your application that you are working as dental assistant or etc.) what were your favorite procedures or something similar and they were really impressed when i was able to use dental terminologies that many predents do not really know. So if you have lot of knowledge about dentistry and dental terminologies, try to use it for your own advantage

yeah, just don't make anything up/pretend you know when you don't. you're better off just being honest if it did come up

I was pretty surprised when they asked me nothing of my three years as a dental assistant. Instead it was questions about what I liked to do in my free time, where I saw myself in the future and why I had chosen the dental profession.

I didn't get any questions related to dentistry, BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT one of my interviewers last year was grilling me with a few Kinesiology questions since I am that major.

The purpose of the interview is to find out if you are a good fit for their school and give you an opportunity to see if you can see yourself attending their school.

The interviewer might ask you about dental terminology either out of amusement or if he/she suspects that you lack the sufficient exposure to dentistry prior to your interview, the latter can only occur if you have 10 hours of shadowing experience with a single dentist.

Know enough to talk about your dental experiences.

I was asked what material you use to make the mold for crowns at NYU.

NYU asked me if I knew how to make a transaction following a procedure. Like accepting insurance, cash, checks, payment plans i.e. Dental Receptionist duties...

It wasn't out of the blue, but the conversation led into it
