Hi guys, after shadowing my dentist and asking for a LOR, he told me to write up the LOr and he would sign it and mail it to interfolio for me. Is this normal? Isn't the LOR required to be written by the actual person and not me?

It's not optimal, but it happens. Some of them are aware that it's the letterhead and their signature/credentials you need and just don't feel like writing it. If you're completely uncomfortable and have another option, then go for that. Tell him you'll draft something and let him look it over for any changes or additions. Even if he just says, "That looks great!", you did what you could.

sweet! you should make stuff up like that one time instead of doing a root canal you were able to revive a dead tooth, or how your soothing voice can take the place of anesthetics.

JK. If I was a busy dentist/prof, and I had a good impression, I'd probably do the same.

Easy. Use third person.

Go for the obvious core stuff, then fluff it up!
