There was a post a while back that had a link to a dental marketing website where you could enter a zip code, and it would return a demographic with the number of general dentists and specialists in that area.

I have done a lot of searches both on SDN and in general and can't find it. Any help would be very much appreciated!

The one Zip I've tried appears to be very accurate. It lists 2 Oral Surgeons, but both of those actually are only one day a week coverage.

You will need to do your due diligence with that site and others such as the state dental boards list of licensees by county. In group or corporate practices they will list every dentist in the group that may provide coverage even if it's on an emergency basis. Many times they inflate the saturation rate beyond what is the actual rate. Also pay attention to ages as all active licensees are listed weather they actively practice .

Thanks for this post who you have posted. Nice one.

In my hometown,
General Dentist (GP) to Population Ratio: 1:6,760

Me gusta. :) Thanks for this interesting link, though I concur that it is a bit inaccurate--there is a new dentist in town, and I don't think they have accounted for him yet.

It's kind of fun playing with zip codes just get an idea, but not something I'd count on. The lecture was a long time ago, but I think you can order county data when you're really looking to set up shop so you can consider all sorts of things with your demographics and surrounding area that will make a big deal in your marketing moves. I'm likely not going to set up where I live now (1:~800 on this estimate), but if I were savvy about it (marketing degree with experience helps me feel confident), I think I could make it happen.
