Quick question...Guy comes into the pharmacy and thinks he is allergic to the aluminum in his deo. What do you guys think? Would hypoallergenic deo be a better option? It seems like almost every product contains Al.

Straight deodorants don't contain Al.

Antiperspiant/deodorant combos do.

he could try Tom's of Maine products. Although I've been around enough tree-hugger types to notice it doesn't work all that well

You have to go product to product. There are a few deodorants that do NOT contain aluminum. Yodora comes to mind as one brand. Toms of Maine is another. Right Guard Original Sport Spray Deodorant is also aluminum free.

Before you assume someone is allergic to aluminum, I would bet they are more likely to be allergic to the fragrances than the aluminum which is inorganic.

I would recommend secret unscented. Don't let them get hung up on the advertising about being for women only. If they don't react to the Secret, it's the fragrance and not the aluminum. If they do react to the secret you can try one of the three aluminum free brands above.

Tell him to stop using deodorant/Antiperspirant with aluminum. Problem solved.

I think Almay makes a hypoallergenic deoderant...I've spotted it on the shelves, but it was a tough find.

I say get an aluminum can and flatten it out. Carve your name out of it and tape it to his chest. If your name is written in his chest in red the next day, tell him he should stay away from aluminum.

I had someone come in to the pharmacy and ask the same question. They claimed after using the said brand, their underarm was irritated and it stained their white t-shirts yellow under the arm. I agree, secret unscented and problem solved.

I break out from deoderant/anti-perspirants and so does my husband. He solved his problem by switching to a spray and I switched to a clear gel. We were both using the white deoderant sticks. Even the non-scented, hypo-allergenic ones caused problems for us. I think part of the problem was the rubbing of the deoderant stick causing some skin damage.

I think it's the sweat that contributes to an eventual yellow tinge. You should take a look around a change room at hockey.

Does anyone out there use Certain Dri? (aluminum chloride 12%). Sure it's strange to put on antiperspirant at night, but it's an awesome feeling to have no pit sweating at all and no gel, slimy pit feeling or powder everywhere. 👍

i always thought it was the aluminum that turned white---to yellow 👎

Yeah, the urea in sweat used to turn my latex lab gloves yellow. I would get so embarrassed during labs, because my gloves looked discolored 😳.
