The whole dermatopathology fellowship application process can get quite murky. Many times programs take their internal candidates, and don't have a formal application process.
Of those that do, the timeline for applying is not standardized. So by the time you get an interview, you may have already gotten offers from other places and vice versa. And...programs many times give you a really short time from when they offer you a position and when you have to accept!
Quite a stressful position
So good luck to those who are applying this year!!
Also wanted to add a shameless plug:
www.dermpedia.org is a "wiki" style website dedicated to sharing dermatopathology cases and promoting discussion. It's open to anybody, and is pretty cool! Check it out, register, and/or become a contributor. Other reputable people on the site include Drs. Phil McKee, Martin Mihm, Cynthia Magro, Victor Prieto, and Raymond Barnhill.
I've added a "Dermatopathology Trainees" conference, where residents and fellows can add interesting cases. Hopefully this can serve as something educational and productive!
