I was browsing through subspecialties/fellowships on FRIEDA and came across this one. Not all had websites linked, but I was wondering what this is? I know this is for the derm forum probably, but thought someone in my 'home forum' would tell me so I don't look dumb there.

So is this for derm folks or path folks? wouldn't either one of those residencies adequately cover diseases of the skin.....just guessing here.

actually just checked out the derm forum...whoa kind of like a ghost town there. They only have 1000 total posts or so. Ectopic has them beat probably by himself.

So I'll prob get a better answer here or gen resid forum anyways.

It is a fellowship from path.. i think it is the most competetive and best $$ one.. I think the lords of it are down in texas somewhere

Actually, derm folks can do it too. There are some programs that tend to take more derms and some that tend to take more paths. You are right that it is extremely competitive - and extremely well compensated.

Too scared to post in the path forum? 😛

I might be called a traitor, helping them boost their posts and stuff. Plus, I kind of get nervous around path folks, although I am doing Forensic Pathology next month!!! Folks, you might see me on CSI (i'm an Indian-Indian..I know narrows it down, huh).

But still, dermatologists spend 3/4 years on derm, then do one year doing dermatopathology....I guess maybe fine tuning their collection skills...

Dermpath is a fellowship that can be entered either from a Derm or Path residency. Some programs are run by Pathology but many are run by Dermatology. In years past the great majority of dermpath trainees were dermatologists. Then cosmetic and surgical fellowships became popular and this fellowship fell out of favor, pathologists filled most spots. Now the tide has turned as this field is highly lucrative and very much sought after.

hmmm $$$... Derm... Out of curiosity how much so these guys make compared to what a regular Derm or Path doc makes..

cool, thanks, I knew the EM forum would bail me out again. See, no reason to consult the path/general resid folks.
