Is the Dermlite II Pro HR the best all around dermlite available? Planning on buying one before I start my residency next year, but dont really know too much about these things. For those residents who have experience with these, which would you purchase today?

That's the same one I have and I would argue yes. It's not the top of the line but I think it strikes a balance between being useful and not being ridiculously overpriced.

It is the same one I would purchase today as I feel some of the lower end models have too small a viewing window (1cm as opposed to 2 on the one we are discussing)

I would hold off on purchase though as some programs (generous ones) may offer you a free dermlite or will at least have a discount program in place

I just got a dermlite II pro hybrid (slightly more advanced than the HR and worth the extra 50 bucks). With a resident discount that ended 8/31, it was 595. Thats 400 off the full price. An even if I get tired of it after a couple yrs, I can probably sell it for ~500-600, so I think it was a good deal!

The very best is the Dermlite Pro 3. Its ~1100 and it comes with a certificate of dermatologic badassness

I bought my Dermlite DL3 for $799 at the AAD with the resident discount. I'd try then.

You may want to wait and see if your program has a dermatoscope in the clinic. We have 3 at mine.
