Is it still easier to secure a dermpath fellowship by being a derm resident (vs path resident)?

Is it still better to be a derm-trained dermpath in the market out there?

Hoping some folks who are dermpath can also chime in as well on how things are going...

Yes it’s easier to get a dermpath fellowship coming from a derm residency. But it’s also much harder to get into derm residency than path residency. Is it easier to get a dermpath job if you’re derm trained vs path trained? Its 6 of one and half dozen of another. Its very hard to find a pure dermpath job period because one dermatopathologist can read over 100 cases a day. Its very difficult for one pathologist to have so many cases they NEED a partner. With that said, there are a lot of part time dermpath jobs. If you’re derm trained then you do gen derm most mornings and read slides a few afternoons a week. If you’re path trained then you read all of the dermpath for your group and then do Surg path the rest of the time. Like I said, 6 of 1 half dozen of another
