Hello friends,

I don't think I fully understand the desflurane vaporizer. I know that desflurane's vapor pressure is close to atmospheric pressure, and it would be very difficult to get a controlled amount of desflurane to the patient if we do not do something with the vaporizer.

The desflurane vaporizer is heated. Doesn't that make the vapor pressure even higher?

thanks in advance.

I don't think I fully understand the desflurane vaporizer.

It's volatility is too variable across the range of temperatures in an operating room and atmospheric pressure. For example, if you take it to Denver, Colorado, it will will boil at room temperature.

Therefore, if you keep it at one set temperature, you keep the vapor pressure constant. So, you heat it (which is easier than cooling it anyway).

That's the simplest answer you can get avoiding discussion of partial pressures.
