I am so upset right now because I saw a news headline that saids Paris Hilton got a designer micropig. After googling this on the internet, its apparently the "latest pet craze".
This makes me so angry :diebanana:because it's going to end up just like the Chihuahua problem in california where shelters are overrun with chihuahuas after the trend was over. The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me. A lot of these "designer" animals usually come with a slew of health problems and after spending thousands on a pet, they won't cough up any cash for vet care to treat these animals and end up dumping them in a shelter to be euthanized. I saw the fb status of this not-too-bright girl that read "I want a baby pig!", needless to say I chewed her out and gave her a dose of reality.

I didn't know who else to rant to and I figured everyone here would feel the same! ::heavy sigh::

well , to be honest, I'd probably get one if I had the money and actually lived in a house instead of an apt.

My family had potbellied pigs growing up that lived in our house like our cats and dogs. Even litter box trained. I've always said I'd love to have another one cause they're so smart and have great personalities.

They are actually also very good pets for people who have serious pet allergies since they have hard bristle hairs instead of fur.

unfortunately there will always be pets that are abandoned by their owners, but I don't think that should stop anyone from making certain pets available to people who can take care of them. thats just my personal opinion though.

Wasn't it Paris Hilton who left like a thousand animals to starve in her mansion or was that somebody else?

So I looked up these "Mico-Pigs" and I have to say they look like a weak baby pig at best. Anyone else think these little guys look weird?

That won't happen. They will make Micro-Bacon instead!

lol micro-bacon.

GellaBella, your situation was different, you had your parents and a house and you are a responsible pet owner. The demographics of people who will buy trendy pets because its cute generally don't have the same mindset and probably wants to carry them around town to show off. And then try to get rid of it once the novelty wears off. Hence, the dumping of chihuahuas in shelters all over california.

"There's a new designer pet called the Micro Pig. It measures just 8 inches from nose to tail and weight 9 oz. at birth, about the size of a teacup.
When full-grown, the micro pig will be about the size of a small to medium dog, 14 inches tall and weighing about 65 lbs." -the pet wiki

Um... I know pigs get big, but I don't know if I'd call a 65 pound pig "Micro"

I have a feeling a lot of people are going to get these 'micro' pigs thinking they'll stay the size they are when they are babies (hence the ending up at shelters).

With that said, damn they are cute!

I definitely want a pig someday (prob not micro!) because they are super cool and smart! I'll just add it to my collection of farm animals I want... someday...
