Hello,

I want to design a major that encompasses pre-med. courses as well as other medical-related topics and useful courses for pre-meds. Has anyone done anything similar to this? And if so, how did you do it? What classes did you take, etc.? My school offers health sciences anthropology and I wanted to incorporate those classes such as med. anthro., and health topics. in other cultures.

I would like to have a plan of attack before meeting with the dean. Any thoughts are well-appreciated. Thanks!

I designed my own major. It is officially called "Letters, Arts & Sciences" with a "Liberal Studies" option. I'll graduate in May with a B.A.

I looked at the minimum requirements for the med schools I wanted to attend (2 semesters bio with lab, 2 semesters chem w/lab, 2 semesters organic chem w/lab, 2 semesters physics w/lab, some require calculus and some genetics, some require others). I figured those courses into my degree. I also took Medical Ethics (philosophy class) and Health Policy Administration as I felt they would help me in my career. The other courses I took were either basic requirements for any degree (some english, economics, etc, etc) and the rest were just courses I thought would be interesting (German History/Culture, Russian History/Culture, Anthropology, Music, Drawing, etc).

Everything is lined up for me to graduate in May. I took the August 2004 MCAT and applied to three D.O. schools (KCOM, PCOM, LECOM). I have received interview invitations to all three and have interviewed and been accepted at KCOM with two other interviews pending.

I hope this help.
