i currently have an outline of a research project with a few details ironed out, a researcher at my university's hospital likes my project and is currently working on assigning a med student, resident, and attending to the project. but i feel like i have a fraction of material that i should have at this point. if anyone with experience could help and maybe give me an idea of what i should have done? you can pm me also

I can tell you this is par for the course. Everything takes 8 times longer than expected. Get help whenever possible, especially when you a) don't have a lot of experience, b) don't have a lot of time. Just make sure you and your advisor try to have a very clear vision of each step, and who will be responsible. Avoid delegating tasks - unless they are rote and routine - to someone like a medical student who has no time and likely little experience.

Seek helpful post-docs.
