I just took my DAT last week and I did really bad...unfortunately, it has been my 3rd times taking it.

i know i definetely have to retake it (need to get permission from ada first) and i'm planning to retake at the end of jan

but i'm just wondering if i still have chance for this cycle

i have low gpa
sGPA: 2.98
oGPA: 2.99
currently getting a master degree

PAT 21
QR 17
RC 14

(any advice on how to study RC? my weakest section ever)
BIO 18
GC 22
QC 19
TS 19
AA 18

Thanks!

it's not reeeeally bad (you got a 21PAT and 22 GC, good job) except for your RC score, but you definitely need higher scores because of your low GPA. or something that will give your application a boost like EC because there are applicants with your GPA that got into dental school so don't lose all hope.

ouch did you get pianoed or frapped in RC?

You call AA:18 TS:19 PA:21 bad scores?
I mean they're not the best scores out there, but they're definitely not the worst either.
I really don't suggest you retake the exam for the 4th time. Why?

1-IT'S A PAIN. You have to petition for it, which essentially means you need to write a letter to ADEA and explain to them why your first 3 tries haven't been successful. And even after you do so, you'll never know whether or not they're gonna approve you for a 4th time.
2-Dental schools don't like to see applicants taking the DAT more than 3 times. After than, they'll start thinking maybe you're really not cut out for becoming a dentist.
3-Retaking the exam by Jan is too late, if you're planning on applying for the 2010 cycle.

I suggest you go ahead and apply with these scores. Worst case scenario, you won't get in this year. In that case, you can have everything ready for June 2010, when you can apply super early with these grades and definitely get few interviews for next year.

Good Luck👍👍

sigh...
actually this is my 4th time applying...
i'm so scared and lost

i really want to retake the 4th time...b/c i already called some schools about my dat score, ALL the schools suggested me to retake w/ that 14 on RC

i think i have great EC, been volunteering at 2 private dental clinic for the past 3 or 4 yrs, working at my dad's clinic, invovled in research project/observation at USC
but i really don't think EC gonna help me much...
i got 2 interview at USC and Western U last yr but w/ a better DAT score

i know that DAT will be the only thing that can help me to get into ds, but now i screwed it...so i really don't know what's gonna happen

i know schools don't like applicants to take it more than 3 times, but wouldn't be even worst if they see you have low score and do nth about it?

thank you for all your adivces. i thought no one would reply my thread 🙂

Just try to take the DAT again... I'm sorry you were very unlucky to get that piano essay. (everythings else looks great!) Hope you'll get in dental school this year!! I'm encouraged by your persistence here! keep it up and hope the schools can see it 🙂

I also got the piano passage, it was in the 2nd passage so I skipped it and completed the 3rd passage, then came back to the piano passage. I knew the piano passage was going to take the longest so I concentrated on the other two. I completely guessed on about 3-4 piano questions, but ended up getting a 19 on the RC section. So I recommend leaving a hard passage until the end.

I took the DAT in June and had the Paino passage as well. That passage was the hardest one I ever ran into. Usually the RC is pretty easy, but that passage was very indirect. Oh and your scores are not that bad. The only reason 18 seems bad because scores have risen over the past several years. A 19 on the TS is fine too. My friend last year had a AA:18 TS:19 and PAT: 22 and he is currently in dental school. An 18 is not going to get you a bunch of interviews but if you have good EC's and experience you should get a couple (or atleast 1). That could be all you need. Apply first and see what happens. If you don't get in then re-take it if you can.

Oh and look at my scores, not much different than yours and I have two interviews.

The QR I had was the hardest thing I have ever come across. I felt like a 5 year old trying to do calculus
