Hi guys, I just took the MCAT last week and I have a few general questions that make it hard to post this thread in any specific forum so please help me with them.
1) MCAT score comes out at the end of the month and I want to sign up for the next test just in case I do not get 34+. Can I update my new mcat score after I apply or should I wait until I get the score I want then apply?
2) I am current working in a research lab and the pay is so bad that I wanna quit. Does med schools care what i do during my year off? I know some do and some don't so please give me the name of the schools you know that care or don't care. My top choice are USC and Davis.
Thank you for all your help. I really appreciate it.

1. If you put that you're going to retake your MCAT, schools will wait for that score, otherwise they won't consider it until it is actually there, at which point you may have to actually send an update letter to schools to get them to notice it.

2. Of course they care what you do in your year off. If you hate research, so be it. Most pre-med/med students don't seem to like research a lot, and that's fine. Do something that is worthwhile to you. If you spend your off-year playing video games and eating cheetohs, it isn't going to do you much good. Do something you've wanted to do for a while.

:meanie:Think about this: how can a school know if you have quited your research lab if you don't tell...

You know, other than the LOR that's missing or the dates that don't add up, but ok, go ahead and just make stuff up on your application.

Ok obviously I am not gonna spend my year off playing starcraft2 so i guess my question should be: Do I really have to stay in a academic environment like working in labs and things like that? To be honest I do not enjoy doing research. What if I go and work in some restaurants, insurance companies or banks?

Those all sound like great options. Personally I am trying to find a research job because I didn't get to do it in college and I really want the experience. If I were you I would do something fun. I don't really think what you do matters. Just do something clinically related on the side and you will be set.
