Hi guys, i need help with thus concept. The answer states, "the probability of a crossover occurring between two genes on a homozygous chromosome is increased if they are further apart." the answer says this is true statement. However, should it not be closer since further away = double crossing over. Please clarrify this for me. Thanks
 
I think you're thinking too much. When two genes on a chromosome are pretty close to each other, they're normally linked, meaning the probability of cross-over between those two genes are very low. Just think about it, what are the chances of a cross over happening between two genes that are 100 nucleotides away compared to two other genes that are 1000000 nucleotides away from each other?! A cross over is still possible between two genes that are close to each other, but the probability is very low. That's all that statement is saying.

Exactly what PooyaH said and also think of it this way...if two genes are close together on a chromosome, the chromosome is not flexible enough to make a cross over occur, but when the genes are farther apart on a chromosome more space is between those two genes and it allows the chromosome to cross over easier. I dont know if that made any sense
