Can anyone please explain why Orgo Destroyer #174 is acteal---- and not ketal??

hmm I think it should a ketal also! I don't see any hydrogens attached to that carbon!

Choice B is an acetal R-O-R-O-R. That is an acetal whats the question???

I do not understand klutz? I thought acetal is a carbon connected to -OR, -OR, -H, -R. The answer contains two -OR and two -R --- which should be a ketal. right??

Wikipedia (ketal) says that ketal and acetal are essentially equivelant.

Sorry, for not explaining further.
The only difference is how it is created. A ketal comes from a ketone and an acetal usually comes from an aldehyde. The functional group itself is the same.

It was not like that when I took chemistry? I am sure they were different.

It doesn't matter anymore ketal and semiketal are old terminology.
IUPAC officially tossed them, so DAT probably won't use them 🙂

I understand what you are saying but the answer shows a molecule that was originally a ketone. So, if I were given this question again-- would it be correct if i chose the ketal-- if there were no acetals?

I guess.
ketal= R-C(OR)2- R
