Hey Guys,

I just have two quick questions from destroyer...if I can't get answers here I'll call up Dr. Romano, I just didn't want to bother him with only two questions.

For #23 on the General Chemistry, I got this problem right. However when I was looking at the solution to it on page 165, I don't fully understand the extra examples given at the very end of the page and why they are neutral, acidic, and basic. I guess my main problem is the point where is states DONT FORGET TO FIRST REMOVE SPECTATOR IONS. Can anyone maybe write out how these reactions would go (even just one or two) and let me know what the spectator ions so I can understand how to understand this problem?

Also, for question 33 of Gen Chem, I understand what state functions are but I don't know what q and w are representing, thus I dont understand why they are not state fuctions. They are probably very simple but for some reason the brain isn't co-operating. What would be some other examples of things which are not state functions?

Alright thanks guys, hope everyone is studying hard and somewhat enjoying this summer.

q= heat
w= work

they are not state functions because they depend on the path taken to form them. in contrast, delta H (enthalpy), is a state function because it is a path independent, and a proof to that will be the usage of HESS'S LAW.
