When i hit this problem i stopped because i didnt want to waste my time with the calculations cuz i kno it will take some time, that and im a lazy *****😀. Will i ever encounter something that will require a good amount of calculating like that?

ya its #54 gen chem for destroyer.

How much heat is needed to convert 20g of ice at -40C to steam at 300C?

Gives u the specific heat of water ice and steam and the heat of fusion and heat of vaporization, its one of those long calculation problems.
 
I really doubt they put anything like that, but they probabely give you something with one phase change rather than 2!
 
i dont think this type of question is considered tough but yeah if you get this type of question remember that when ever there is a phase change there will never be a temperature change AND when there is temp. change never a phase change.
 
they gave you that problem to help test your knowledge of those types of problems. I know what question you're talking about and it does take a while to solve...but it tests pretty much everything you need to know how to calculate and what to look out for when you see these types of problems.
