What is true about smooth muscle?
a)it is found in the aorta, pulmonary artery, esophagus, and bladder.
b)it is mononucleated
c)involuntary muscle that is slow to contract
d)they respond to stimulation with action potentials

The answer is e but iam pretty sure its d...I thought smooth muscle and cardiac muscle are both myogenic meaning they dont respond to stimuli...someone please explain thanks

the answer they give is right, it is all of the above. thus, d, as you said, is also correct in addition to a, b, and c. action potentials stimulate contraction through something like excitation-contraction coupling mechanisms.

what you're saying is true, myocytes don't respond to external stimuli, in the sense that the external stimuli is causing the contraction. the muscle cell itself is causing contraction from stimulus associated with action potentials.

i mean it cant be D sorry, because myogenic means it doesnt ellicit stimuli from other systems therefore the smooth muscle fuctions without stimuli...

i think ur just slightly confused. but hopefully this will clear it up.

myocytes, or muscle cells, do respond to stimuli, for example action potentials. smooth muscle for example is stimulated by the autonomic nervous system, or hormonal stimulation. However, they are also capable of self-generated action potentials as well.
