Question reads:

Which statement is false?

a) Calcitonin stimulates osteoclastic activity
b) ADH and oxytocin are made by the hypothalamus and stored in the posterior pituitary gland
c) ADH may increase blood pressure because it allows the collecting ducts of kidney to be more permeable to H2O
d) The adrenal medulla synthesizes adrenaline and noradrenaline
e) Thyroxin increases the basal metabolic rate

Answer is a) but the explanation has nothing to do with this question. I just want to make sure that there is no error.

Also, I know aldosterone action results in increase in water volume and blood pressure. ADH results in water retention too, but does ADH also increase blood pressure?

Any explanation on choice a) would be appreciated too
Thanks for the help!

iirc from human phys, ADH should increase blood pressure.By retaining more water, the blood plasma volume increases which results in an increased blood pressure.

A is false. Calcitonin reduces the the calcium levels in the blood by stimulating osetoblastic activity (bone forming via calcium absorption). Osetoclastic (bone resorption) is opposite of osteoblastic meaning calcium levels in blood are increased. So make sure you drink your milk and have enough calcium in your body as you don't want your bones to become brittle.

GOod stuff LG2DS.

Easy way to remember these little things:

Calcitonin TONES down calcium level in the blood.

OsteoBlasts BUILDS Bones.

Correction: calcitonin doesn't stimulate osetoblastic activity directly. However, it inhibits osteoclastic activity directly.

Side note: PTH promotes bone formation by signaling osteoblasts which in turn activate osteoclasts to remove bone tissue.
