The frequency for the allele for cystic fibrosis, an autosomal recessive trait is 1 in 2500 among white americans. What is the heterozygote frequency?

A. 8%
B. 4% Answer
C. 1%
D. 10%
E.14%

I don't understand why the 1/2500 is used as the genotypic frequence (q^2), when it states that its the allele frequency (q) in the question😕 am I reading this the wrong way?

Thanks for the help!

i remember this question. I looked at it like this,

hmm 1/2500 have cystic fibrosis soo that one person out of 2500 has the genotype qq. oo qq is also q^2 cause that 1/2500 has to have 2 q's to have the disease.

hope this helps!

I was just going over this tonight.

I agree with you. If the FREQUENCY OF THE RECESSIVE ALLELE is 1/2500, then the homozygous recessive frequency should be (1/2500)^2.

In my mind, this is an error.
