It sure just destroyed mine. I am getting like 3-4 question right out of 10 in G-chem and O-chem. I know a lot of SDNers refer to it like the bible but, i am just wondering how are you guys using this book? Am i just not ready for it yet or is it seriously this hard?
I have about 6 weeks left before i face the moment of truth so any advice to come up with a game plan is appreciated.

I will be honest with u the destroyer is pretty Straight forward Some questions do require thinking but the level is very doable. The best advise I can give u is to learn from ur mistakes and really learn the solution manual b/c this is the best thing I have ever saw in my life . Each solution refers to many expanations which could of answer other questions. So don't u worry, concenrate try to get used to the way the questions are asked, and even if u get it wrong it's good in away just try to understand ur mistakes and learn from them. U said u have 6 week left, if i would be u I would go over the book at least 2-3 times, believe me u will know the material Down Cold. I really hope u do well Let me know how u do. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍👍👍

Yea Destroyer is pretty hard! Esp Gchem....I found gchem the most hardest i was hardly able to answer 30% of the question. which sucks..coz i thought that i knew gchem very well & i was good at it when i took it a year ago. QR is not actually bad i was able to answer about 85% of questions. Bio oh my god!!! very very hard...i would say i got less than 40% right!I am still working on Org....its not that bad. So far I am able to answer atleast 60% of the questions if not less.... but I sure am hoping to improve 😀

But like the other SDNer said please learn from your mistake! read the solution not just to find out the right answer but also why the others are wrong. It takes me forever to finish destroyer because i go slow & i read all the solution & make sure that i understand why the answer is right or wrong.

I hope this helps! good luck! I have 6 weeks left as well for the real thing!!

Clearly its difficult, but it lets you figure out what you DONT know so you can brush up on that. I used notecards for the destroyer. I did 10-20 problems, looked at the solutions to figure out why I got questions wrong (or right...destroyer gives you a lot of extra information so read EVERYTHING) and made notecards about what I thought was useful information. I ended up with about 120 notecards for ochem, 75 for gen chem, 50 for bio, and 30 for QR.

Hope that helps

I think that the solutions are more important than the questions. Each one is like a mini lecture covering many points. Of course you should study the correct answer, but more importantly, understand why the other answers are wrong.

Yup, I got like 25/40's on bio and 15/30's on ochem and 20/30's on gen chem. However, that is my first time around. I think o chem is really good (esp. road map!!). For o chem, I tried the second time, and I've been getting 28/30's. I mean, I can't believe how much knowledge I gained from destroyer. I think you should try it about 3 times in order to be confident.

Just like everyone is saying try and learn from it, remember the destroyer isn't your test, its simply another tool for the test... simply extract information that you didn't know, refresh your memory and most importantly, read the question cearfully and pay attention to the answers... I personally began to pay attention to details which is an important Thing for the DAT....

P.S. "THink about it, if you got all the answers right than what would you be learning?"

is destroyer hard? you bet. is that why everyone wants to get exposed and get more practice? sure. clearly you get the point. Just like any other achiever and topscore practice exams, destroyer is designed so you can be exposed to all types of questions and so on the real thing you've seen it before so you know what to do! I have the destroyer and clearly, on the first time round..i felt like i knew nothing. But! now that you know what your weaknesses are!!! go and learn how to do the problem..know WHY you got it wrong and go from there.

Remember : the destroyer exists for one sole purpose only: to destroy the DAT. NOT your confidence!!

Thats half the point of it. The solutions explain the wrong answers to you so youre not just memorizing facts, but actually understanding where you went wrong. And since the 07 DAT seems to be practical-application heavy, this is exactly the type of thing you want to be doing.

PS: But memorize those road maps-theyre basically every type of reaction(with a few exceptions like michael additions gabriel synthesis exhaustive methylation hoffman elimination claisen diels alder and aldol, i think) that you need to know.

If you understand the basics, then the questions are good practice. If you find it difficult, maybe you should study from your old chemistry textbooks for awhile to get a good foundation.

Since destroyer isn't like the actual exam, I have been studying differently than most. Instead of taking the destroyer and answering 10-20 questions then looking back I separated the solutions and the questions into two notebooks. Each question I went through individually because each question is an important concept. I would refer to the answer after answering the question and if I understood the concept I'd move on...if not, I'd go back to the kaplan white book. I feel like if you're studying Destroyer (like a lot of us do) then you are preparing for the DAT, not trying to find stuff you don't know to kill your confidence. Good luck studying, the destroyer will only make you that much more prepared for the real thing! 🙂

I think it's good to learn a bit of humility early on in the study process.

I dunno...maybe it's because I adopt a zen approach to all this. But humility gets you to push yourself harder and makes the learning or re-learning process more effective.

Just a FYI, I memorized the entire Destroyer word for word. Of course, I really took the time to understand it first. However, after I understood something...I memorized it in a way that would allow me to apply it.

I wouldn't leave any stone unturned in that book. Same goes for achiever
