I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this. I understand the concept of some transition metals fill their d orbitals before their s orbitals for instance....

Cu= [Ar] 4s1 3d10 (1 unpaired electron)
Cr= [Ar] 4s1 3d5 (6 unpaired electrons)

but then Fe fills [Ar] 4s2 3d6 (4 unpaired electrons)..s orbital first then d

so what confuses me is that all three are transition metals but two of them fill the d orbitals first and then the s orbital (Cu & Cr) while one fills it's s orbital then its d. Is there a systematic way of knowing which transition metals fill their orbitals which way?!!

you just need to know and memorize that Cu and Cr are the BAD ASS duo !!!!

Cr pops up from [Ar]4s2 3d4 to [Ar] 4s1 3d5 always !!!! and

Cu pops up from[Ar]4s2 3d9 to [Ar] 4s1 3d10 always. it is like that because experimentally it was determined that these two elements are more stable this way.
