I did this problem and non of the answer choices fit into what I solved. This is the question from the Destroyer in the Math section #150.

"What is the solution set of the equation / 3x - 6 / > 9?"

I don't really get why in the solution they went about solving the way they did. So if any one can solve it, great. THis is not a hard problem.

The choices were

a. x < 5
b. x > -1 and x < 5
c. x > -5 and x < -1
d x < -1 and x > 5
e x > 1

Knock yourselves out

Either 3x-6 >(eq) 9 or 3x-6 <(eq) -9.

So then either 3x >(eq) 15 or 3x <(eq) -3.

Finally either x >(eq) 5 or x <(eq) -1.

Answer is D.

The way streetwolf did is perfect. I'm pretty sure that the destroyer does it just the same way. You just change change the direction and the sign and solve, and then you solve regularly and you get both sides.
