What does answer choice A mean in #98??

And in question 174, is this a mistake because i thought acetals have a H on central carbon...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but...

For #98, I believe that means you have a racemic mixture of the product, but since the rxn is sn2, you get inversion of config so it is incorrect.

For #174, I dont think that this is a mistake. Hemiacetals have a H on the central carbon. Acetals have two OR groups (like choice b shows).

Hi, thanks for the reply, but dont ketals also have two OR groups? I thought what distinguished ketal from acetal was that ketal has two R groups, and two OR groups bonded to a central carbon, where as an acetal has one H, one R, and two OR groups as shown here:
