My exam is in 5 days and don't feel confident in the OC section. I have been practicing the destroyer OC questions and honestly, I don't know the answers to most of the questions. Is the destroyer OC questions a lot harder than the real DAT? I'm freaked out...

I know you all are going to laugh thinking WTH am I doing trying to take this exam when I'm doing so poorly in the OC section. goodness I'm so lost and don't know how to approach this PROBLEM!!!

any help?

I'm having the same problem as you. The orgo in Destroyer is just way out there.. like they ask questions on all the exceptions..
my favourite is the one where they give you a something like 1-butene with the reagents HCl and ROOR. What is the product?

Well APPARENTLY HCl follows markovnikov addition with peroxides.. Isn't that ****ed up.

I am experiencing the same frustration. I seem to be relearning a lot of ochem with Destroyer. I, however, do not feel that the DAT will be this crazy😱😕.

How do you like the roadmaps? Do you think that they are going to be really useful on the exam?

I'm taking it on the 19th too. I'm also freaking out. This morning I decided to give up on destroyer (not the bio section though) and focus on Kaplan subject tests. 2 yrs ago when I took the DAT, I didn't even know about destroyer and only went with kaplan s.t. and got TS 21.

1, why are you retaking after a 21! amazing!

2. My test is the 19th also!!
Good luck to all of us!
I am just using Kaplan and AP Cliffs

I took the course so I have all the online stuff too....

Gah am I nervous!

Chem is my worst as well--- I just feel like I'm missing some concepts. I don't feel like there is THAT much information... maybe it's because we've learned chem for a while and some ofit just comes intuitively now. I dont know.... either way..... gah!

Hey buckeye relax. I am retaking the DAT in a few weeks and it is not worth stressing about.

I stressed and freaked the first time and when I finished I was like "you have got to be kidding; that is all it was". You will do fine.

My previous scores are embarrassing enough so I won't post them until after this retake but let's just say that the test itself is not truly complicated (except maybe RC and QR mainly due to time).

To tell you guys the truth, i think ochem destroyer is the most helpful practice out there. I do not think it is way out of there since i remember my ochem midterm is 10 times harder than destroyer. Destroyer obviously make me go look back at my own thick ochem text boook and recalled my hidden memories. It reinforce concept and i believe it would make the real DAT like a cake to you guys if you study it. Gluck

I feel like it does a great job of getting to the POINT, however, as you saw there's like what 5 or more roadmaps and at this point with only 5 days left there's only sooo much we can possibly memorize. I think the worst part about this test is that they are testing us on years worth of science classes and from that HUGE amount of stuff we've learned.... they only ask us 40 from bio, 30 from both chem and ochem. THAT SUCKSSS!!!

I'm actually only a rising junior so I guess I have plenty of time like others do say. But from what I hear, dental schools hate to see that you retook the test. And..... knowing that I don't feel even 80% confident on this test, i'm pretty sure I'll retake it sooner or later. I'm beginning to this it's a lot better to study during the school year than during the summer.

The weather is beautiful, all your friends are playing and SO much more = YOUR LIFE!! and it's been really hard for me to concentrate and discipline myself to 6-8 or even 11 hrs of studying.

So what do you guys think.. postpone the test study more and take? Or give it a try cause it can be an unexpected decent score or NIGHTMARE. I just planned on taking it this summer because I did spend the whole summer studying for this exam. HOWEVER wasn't DILIGENT about it. MY FAULT and MY LOSS i know.. dahhhhh!!

haha you called me buckeye. That's cute. Anyways, I wasn't trying to be insulting, I just meant that that was a great score! good luck to you on the next one. I hope I feel like that after I take it. 👍

No prob and the relax was not for your 1. it was more for your entire mental/emothional status.

Don't freak and you will do fine. You have put in your dues now go get what's yours😀.

DAT Destroyer is amazing for OC and not at all "out there."
My Tests in Orgo class was just as crazy.
Anyway..don't panic. Just take ur time and go thru and try to understand the concept. Once u have the concept down ur unstoppable and u'll rock the DAT--WE WILL rock the DAT 🙂

because my low RC score is embarrassing and I've asked about 5 schools and they all told me retake is a must.

I was def intimidated by the roadmaps in destroyer. My Orgo Professor was a fan of roadmaps, but seeing all those reactions in a roadmap format really helps you understand how to place reactions in categories, so you are not memorizing how to do a million reactions, but understanding how they are similar and thus react similarily.

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to start off by saying chill out. I just finished Ochem 2 and at my school that stuff is a lot more difficult. I even think some of the stuff in the destroyer is inconsistent with what i learned. I mean everyone always says its hard but its probably the one section people should be able to score high 20's in if they study it properly. Like I said, i JUST finished o-chem 2, and I did destroyer ochem this morning and I got 51 questions wrong. So if it makes you feel better, thats pretty bad in my opinion. Lots of the questions are due to weird reagents, like the questions having H-Br or H-Cl reacting with like ROOR, and it makes antimarkovnikov for Hbr but NOT Hcl. That is way too much, you don't need to know that. Some of the questions that had optical activity but with no sterocenters... that stuff definately won't be on there. Everyone who has written the test that has done well just said know your basics, so know those before worrying about going more in depth. No point trying to hit destroyer without a solid foundation. Anyway, hope this helps.

Yeah I feel what you mean. For the OCHEM section I would do 30 questions at a time and when I corrected them I would say I would get an average of 15, sometimes way less even... However, going over the answers really makes you feel better and really understand the explanations behind it. I'm hoping after going the DESTROYER about 3-4 more times I'll feel a bit more confident in the OCHEM section.
