I can not seem to grasp this. How can you just assume those values like destroyer soln says?
 
Well this is one of those problems that is fishy cuz of the wording. now you are taking a GAS that has a mole fraction of X or the value they provide. Now this means that you have that many moles of that GAS X. Now this was dissolved in water, so you assume 1 mole of water for calculations sake. Now if the mole fraction was that of the solution after it was dissolved then you have to subtract that from one to get the number of moles of water. then you use that to get the mass of water present and just divide.
