There are very similar problems, yet the solutions utilize different equations. I'm confused, can someone shed some light for me?

I've done a many page search with multiple different parameters and am still not finding it. If you're that determined to not have to tell me, can you give me the keywords to search for??

Okay I thought it would be easier to search for but I guess not. I haven't seen a QR 20/27 thread posted in a while but I believe it involves permutation vs combination. If so, here's an explanation from another thread:
