well i have made it through the sciences of the 2008 version of destroyer 3 times. I feel like i know destroyer cold! I know that memorizing destroyer is not the answer, so what i did was write down everything i didnt get right, and reviewed over and over until i beat the concepts into my head. To those with experience on the DAT who used destroyer, can i wing myself off destroyer chem and focus on QR and other sections? What im trying to ask is, should i be able to handle what the DAT chems throw at me? i really just need 18's. I feel like this is a dumb question, but sitting here and not really knowing where i stand is driving me crazy.

Even if you know the Destroyer Bio cold, it's still possible to run into questions you haven't seen before. It's a crap shoot, but if you know the destroyer you will make at least a 18. The destroyer prepares you very well for the DAT. The hardest part for me about chemistry was figuring out what the question was asking and what formula to use. It wasn't too difficult, but your brain has to be able to jump around. Destroyer will prepare you for the orgo although it doesn't go into too much depth about how acidic/ basic molecules are (based on substituents and stability). Brush up on that.

I studied for a little over a month using only the destroyer, top score, and crack pat. If I could do it differently I would have used cliff notes, barrons I think it's called, and achiever. And also spread my practice tests around a little. What I'm trying to say is, you will do alright with just the destroyer and some practice tests. But if you want 21+ like a lot of people on this forum use other sources too

Hey thanks man, a little reassurance goes a long way!

When I took the DAT a little over a week ago,

For my test version at least, none of the biology questions were anything related to the biology questions on the destroyer... Not even the same topics. The biology is soooooo broad that 1 or 2 specific sources woun't do the trick. I swear to you I had questions on my biology that If I hadn't taken Anatomy and physiology courses I woulda NEVER been able to get the answer right, becuase those questions were asking some general ideas about some systems (I can't mention what cause it gives away the whole question) that were not covered in KBB, AP biolo, or destroyer biology which were the 3 sources I mostly used

With biology, Its random, you might get a version where the test questions are stuff you have covered in AP biology, KBB, and destroyer, or you might get a test version that covers material that is not talked about those 3 sources. And maybe the only way you can answer those questions if you had taken upper level sciences (like in my case)... But I believe the general trend about biology is, 25 are easily answerable, 5 will be WTFs, and the other 10 will require you to spend about 1 minute or more to answer them cause they require you to elevate your thinking.

Now about general chemistry and Orgo, I think destroyer is very good. But I also found the combination of KBB and destroyer and topscore to be a 20+ pusher on these two sections. Seriously I was IMPRESSES with KBB when it came to General chem, I thought it did a great job.

You said you've done the destroyer 3x times, here is what I would do at this point, apply the knowledge you gained from destroyer to another resource (like topscore) and learn from that. Your not gonna get all the questions right, but it will strengthen your foundation everytime you miss a problem.

About QR, I got an 18 so I am not the best person to be giving advice here, but I believe I coulda gotten easily a 20+ on this section If I had done more practiced tests to build up my stamina. I was DRAINEDDD when I got to this section. But seriously, I bought Destroyer MATH, its a book with 10 QR tests and its got a few mini-typos here and there, and I went over the first 6 tests. I am telling you right now, those 6 tests have questions that are VERY similar in nature to the questions I had on my DAT, im gonna go a head and say 80% of them were like SAME questions with different number or different things they asked about.

Haha, this can definitely be the case...It sucks

LOL no kidding, i just about wrote like half of that book. Glad to see it helped.

Destroyer is without a doubt one of the best resources, however, you don't want to get yourself too used to how one source asks questions. Use as many sources as you can. Chem-wise, I think you could kill the g.chem and orgo if you did the whole destroyer and really understand everything. one tip though, while studying for QR, keep your memory fresh and refer back to your sciences every once in a while so you don't get rusty in any other areas. Also, if you haven't used topscore or achiever yet i would just to get yourself used to being time and woorking under pressure. good luck.

4.0 gpa 22 DAT rejected from BU? lol what happened there...

Dunno BU is very random, i was interviewed at every other school i applied to but BU felt it was better than harvard and stony etc...???? I didnt get it. Alot of my classmates were also rejected from BU with overqualified stats.

It's OBVIOUS that you were over-qualified, BU is a school that takes last minute applicants and borderline people who are not good enough to get into top schools. The adcoms know that you have plenty to choose from.

Anyone hear of huge differences between the two? I am using the 2008 version and am planning on taking the test January of 2010.
