Hey guys,
I'm having some trouble understanding why a salt wash and increased pH would detach a peripheral membrane protein.
I understand that transmembrane proteins are lodged in the phospholipid membrane so using detergent to detach them makes sense to break down the lipids that are holding it in there however for peripheral membrane proteins, I know peripheral membrane proteins are held there by ionic interactions and H bonding but that fact doesnt help explain what is happening. Could someone please clarify?
