I received an interview invite yesterday from Detroit Mercy. In the invite it says " "?? Repeat" indicates you are advised to consider repeating the DAT in an attempt to achieve minimally acceptable scores (17+ each category)" I have a 16 in QR. Does anyone have any input. Should I waste my time retaking the DAT even though they granted me an interview?

schedule the interview. they make a decision really fast.. like within a week. if you get waitlisted, that will probably be why. but if you get in, you're golden

Ttime, i'm in the same boat as you.....awhile ago i got an update asking the same thing, if i'd repeat the dat. i wrote a letter basically saying that i would do whatever they want me to do. then i got an interview call. i don't think its too big a deal if you only got one 16. i know someone who got a 15 and was accepted there last year. so....i wouldn't stress it. good luck!

I wouldn't sweat it too much. I received the same letters and have a 15 in QR. I was accepted on November 30th.

Thanks a lot everyone for your input

i got the same thing and i really really wana tell them to go F*** themselves because a 16 in QR is def. not a reason to re-write my DATs. if it was good enough for maryland, uop, tuffts, temple, case, unlv, mehary, usc, nyu, and vcu then it should be more than good enough for them. they really aren't the best school in the country and they need to stop thinking they are. i'm working on growing some balls to go tell them.

Your sentiment seems a little harsh and misplaced. I'm unaware of any claim the school has made to being the "best school in the country". Besides...what constitutes a school being the best? Research? Clinical experience? Tuition (bang for your buck)? Location? Or whatever. The best school for one person, might be the worst for another. In many cases, I'm sure Mercy uses this as a gauge to determine the applicant's desire to attend. If you didn't have an acceptance in hand, I'm sure your attitude might be a little different.

It appears you have put together a great application, and have impressed the right people...congrats on UofP. However, you might want to drop the tough guy facade...you're entering a profession that requires a great deal of professionalism, and at some point you might want to begin working on that quality. Good luck.

very good point.👍

Sorry pharoh, but it seems as though you may have a certain 'personal' grudge against Mercy. I really don't see the harm in them sending out a letter just to let you know that you are not meeting their standards. Although Mercy asks people to rewrite the DATs if their marks are below 17, they do not require it, so they just send you the letter to gain your attention that you aren't meeting their standards. I don't really understand why you are so upset with Mercy. You should really just drop your attitude. Try doing yoga or something to calm yourself down.

AGREED! In my opinion, looks like Mercy has already done an excellent job in weeding out some rotten apples! Hopefully they'll continue to do so I have an awesome group of classmates in the Fall =)

I wrote them a letter back in december just basically saying that I would retake the DATs if they wanted me to, but that I couldn't at the time (mainly because I was taking 6 classes last semester) and I had my interview on the 27th and they asked me about the DATs again there. I told them I would rewrite them if Mercy wanted me to. I got my acceptance on the 29th....so I wouldn't really worry about retaking them. My DAT scores were:
Pat 17
QR 17
RC 16
Orgo 19
Bio 19
Chem 19
Hope that helps!

Perhaps I misunderstood the previous posters actual DAT scores, but they listed a total of 15. If their AA is a 15, I would be VERY surprised if they were given an acceptance. Your scores were noticeably better. Sure they may get an interview by indicating they're willing to retake, but if given an acceptance, it will likely have a contingency attached to it.

I really did not get a clear answer on my previous post, so do you guys think I have a shot for an interview? and what is good If I actually drive to the Mercy's Camps and ask them what is the chance of getting an interview because I live near them??
please help

i think u would def have to retake ur DATs....
i think dentalhopeful's problem was the RC but ur science scores should be better so i would retake them if i were you. if u have a 16 in QR then don't worry about it so much but RC and the sciences are a must.
that's my opinion anyways

I think it is difficult for anyone here to accurately assess your chances of an interview. Personally, I wouldn't just show up on their doorstep...I think it demonstrates a great deal of desperation on your part. I believe you can effectively convey your willingness to retake the DAT and your desire to attend within a well written letter. It also might be more effective if you overnight it. Good luck.

I have my interview this friday... do you think I should write a letter pronto saying that I will retake the DAT, or should I just wait to see what they say at my interview????

I would wait and convey it in the interview. It is likely that your interviewer will pass the information on to the committee...i.e. "this candidate was willing to do whatever it takes to get an acceptance."

ya that sounds like a good plan... thanks! if all goes well friday, then hopefully i'll see ya next fall

ya that sounds like a good plan... thanks! if all goes well friday, then hopefully i'll see ya next fall

Good Luck, I got accepted 2 days after the interview and my scores are

PAT 21
QR 20
RC 16
all of the other parts were 19

I retook the DAT and got 17 on RC but did worse on the other parts but I didn't send my scores to them. They told me that they would like to see me retaking the DAT and I told the person who interiewed me that I will submit the new scores soon, and I did get in. Just go with a good reason why you didn't retake it- like too many classes or research or whatever. They want to feel you are working hard and willing to do whatever to get in. It's about the whole package. There are a lot of ppl w/ 4.0 gpa's and good DAT scores who don't get in!

What did you bring with you to your interview? did you bring a resume or print out your coursework or anything like that???

No I just had a folder w/ some papers and the letter I got for the interview. I didn't need any of that but I just thought it made me look a little bit professional.

Post Interview: They didn't mention one word about my Quant Score (16). I felt the interview went as well as it could. The gentleman who interviewed me said he was going to recommend me for admission......any thoughts on what my chances of getting accepted are?

I'd say you're in. Personally, I don't think QR should matter much. However, I'm still a little surprised they didn't even mention it. Good luck!
