OK, number 2 thread today...What did everyone think of Wayne/DMC and Henry Ford? Here's my take:
Wayne: Access to Children's Hosp on campus, awesome trauma (but I guess this would get old quick on call), decent didactics, a young but growing program with the Dept. Chair coming from Ford. He has plans and this could be an up and comer, so watch out! ?Only Level 1 trauma in Detroit? Cons- Few hearts, finances are in trouble, residents in the program are not very strong but they do seem to pass, finances are in trouble, Hutzel is largely closed (for OB)...
Ford: Program has been around longer, many hearts, good exposure, well known-well funded hospital (no worries about finances here), lots of research at the hospital, Stronger residents than WSU overall, looks like a decent didactic program, you get a Ford employee discount on cars!, Hospital is overall nicer and safer than the DMC. Cons: You go to Childrens for peds, not the best known anesthesia program and no university affiliation (but more research overall than a lot of universities). ?No level 1 trauma?? This is a contested issue. The Ford people say they have an active Level 1 trauma service. The DMC prides itself on being the only Level 1 trauma in Detroit. Basically, you can't have a Superbowl without a Level 1 trauma supposedly, so it is possible that Ford is now that the DMC went public about finacial woes and Receiving was thought to be close to closing (which it no longer is).
Both: It's still D-town, and depending on your situation that could really suck. Not only the most violent city in America, but now the fattest. Of course they don't have the highest number of homicides, but that is just because no one lives there.
