Hi everyone,

So I knew after taking the MCAT that my score would not be great, but my diagnostic was a 504 and I was hoping I would at least get that. I got a 501, with c/p:123, cars:126 bb:127 PS:125.
My overall gpa is 3.71, however I am a non-trad and my post-bacc science gpa is 3.39, I am hispanic. The c/p in the actual MCAT is the lowest I have gotten in any exam, and I am sure it will weigh heavily on my application, since my science gpa is low as well.
Do I still have any chances at all this cycle? I applied late July and I am just now completing secondaries, but I do not know if I should submit them with my stats. I really do not want to wait another cycle, can I aspire to any MD or DO schools? Also, if I do not submit secondaries, does it still counts as having applied if I included the school in my primary? Please help, I am really devastated by this.

hi take a deep breath, are you considered URM? If so, you probably still have a shot at MD and DO schools (although it is a little late)
if you submit your primary, it counts as an application so you be a reapplicant next cycle

I think you have a great shot at DO this cycle based on the timing since it is getting late for MD

I think he would be competitive at *some* DO schools. Averages are at above 30 at several schools now, with most others in the 27.5-29 range. GPAs are around 3.6.

Only the newer schools have MCATS with averages in the 26 range, as far as I know.

By all means, he should apply, and he'll probably get in. Just saying DO isn't the shoe-in it used to be. Especially considering many schools are getting significantly more applicants than just 3-4 years ago.

I am not sure if I am considered URM, I am hispanic but not from Mexico or Puerto Rico. I am in Chicago and applied for MD in late July, but haven't applied to DO yet (was waiting for my score). I also have 4 years of work in healthcare (in a technician position), and shadowing, but no research to speak of or more than one experience volunteering.

if you're an illnois resident, apply to all your state schools and focus on the newer DO schools for your best bet

Do you think your MCAT was a fluke? If you think you can do much better I would retake and apply next year and add some volunteering. If you have to get in this year then apply DO.

Also I love your username.

There are several schools with 30+ MCAT averages? I thought there was only about 2-3. I thought it was just the Touros and AZCOM( 30). Also, AZCOM is considered one of the better schools, and their gpa is 3.5/3.45, with grade replacement.

I think he is fine with a 3.7/26ish

Touro CA/NY will be at 31 for this incoming class. AZCOM is 30, CCOM is 30 as well. I also hear that Western should hit 30 this cycle as well. I also agree, he should be fine, but I've seen plenty of classmates who turned out to be great students rejected from other schools with 30+ mcat's and good gpa's when they applied just two years ago. FWIW, I go to one of those high MCAT DO schools. That said, I do think OP has a good shot, just that he should get on the ball and apply asap because the DO game isn't as easy as it used to be.

Take a deep breath. you will be okay! Some people here will be able to give you a list of DO schools to apply to. You will be competitive for a decent number of them

CCOM is actually at a 506, which is around a 29ish, but still a good score. But there are only 3 (Touros/AZCOM) right now, so he should be fine🙂
Also, DO schools can be very mission based/look more at the whole person (as cliche as that may seem)- I just got rejected from BCOM with a LizzyM of 70, but my dream school WashU gave me a II, so I am still on cloud 9 🙂

WashU is a private school, so I'm assuming that they don't have regional preferences? Idk lol And average gpa and high MCAT.
Yep BCOM is Burrell.

WashU is the MD school in St Louis and is one of the most selective in the world (median MCAT is 37-38).

I assume you're talking about PacNW, which prefers people from the PacNW and CA.

As others have said, you're fine for many DO schools, but skip the coastal Touros, Western, PCOM, KCU, AZCOM and CCOM. Especially target the newest schools, like BCOM, UIW, the VCOMs, ACOM, RVU-UT and NYITCOM-AR. I can't recommend LUCOM and Wm Carey for different reasons.

I assumed that as I am not regional for WashU, they didn't send me II based on geography haha Is it really one of the most selective?? My MCAT is high, but my GPA is just average, so I wasn't even sure they would send me one.
Maybe he was referring to University of Washington?

U WA selects for people from the WWAMI states.

WashU has a LizzyM score of 77! Only U Chicago and U Penn match that. > 90% of the WashU class is from OOS, so they have no IS bias.

Lol my LizzyM is only a little over 70, so this was def a reach school. Super excited to interview there.

What country are you representing when you say "I am Hispanic but not from Mexico or Puerto Rico"?
