Hey guys,

Should I take Developmental biology or Human embryology. It's not required at my school or for dental school(I think), but it's recommended and I think it will benefit me. From what I've heard, human embryology is a lot harder?? If you guys took any or both of these, what did you guys think of it? Thanks.

On my app, i said i would take developmental this spring, im thinking of taking "Anatomy & physiology" in its place..

I know at schools like columbia, having taken developmental will help.. not sure about most at schools..

would A & P help more? guess this thread should be in the Dental forum where they would probably be able to suggest something.. you can also call your school of choice to get an idea..

I Hope switching planned course work is not a big deal to most schools...

Embryology is definitely a hard topic. Just the 3d aspects of it.

I would love to take one of those classes. Ive read some basics on the topics and its real cool. But...I bet its a crapload of work!! There is just way to much stuff to memorize!!

Good luck!!

both will help, but I think embryology will help more.

Also for 'anatomy & physiology' i think you will be better taking the more advanced class of both of those. Even if you audit one. the 'anatomy & physiology' classes that are combined are usually designed for the chiropractor (just kidding) or basic science major. Taking the college core class will help you a LOT more than the puny one. BUT since you are accepted then it might be hard to concentrate enough to take a heavy class like Anatomy or Phsio. Consider it though.

I took Human Embryology... one of the best courses I have taken.

They're both fascinating classes. I think Developmental Biology will be more applicable to dentisty because teeth develop. The class probably won't talk about teeth that much, but it should talk about growth and differentiation of the other organs in the body. Teeth grow in ways not all the dissimilar from that, and they are also altered as people grow up and age.

I would have thought so too.. but an interviewer enthusiastically recommended this course (A&P), and even suggested auditing the course instead of taking it for credit

Developmental, though, sound interesting now😀

im a dev bio specialist, and i can tell you that its an extremely interesting subject; especially, the 'animal' side of it (as opposed to the plant..a.k.a..boring side😛 )
