Ok - FA and Uworld have said that DM I has Beta islets with fibrosis and amyloid

However Goljan rapid review says DM II has Beta islets with fibrosis and amyloid

Which one is it, or is it both?

I vote for type II diabetes because the protein that's supposed to be causing the amyloid deposit is amylin. Amylin is a protein that is co-secreted with insulin from the Beta cells. So in order to inorder for the amyloid deposits to form, the beta cells should have been intact.

Where in FA does it say that?

Also, I've had a question from UW saying it's Type II... it's definitely type II.

it says it in one of the pictures in the back

sorry maybe i got confused about the uworld thing

but i know goljan said type II and amyloid, and he is the man

One of the people in our school actually emailed first aid, and they sent us back a note saying its type 2
