Soo i just took my first diagnostic and got 27. which isnt that bad because i dont even know organic chem and there were 2 passages and aboue 3 discretes on it! i never took it becasue i have just finished my first year. SOOOO im learning it in a few days here with kaplan, whats in the book is this:

Nomenclature, Isomers, Bonding, Alkanes, Alkenes, Alkynes, Aromatic compounds, Alcohols and Ethers, Aldehydes and ketones, carboxilic acids and their derivatives, Amines and Nitrogen containing compounds, purification, separation, spectroscopy, Carbs, Amino acids, peptides and proteins

so those are the topics for them all. CONSIDERING i never have taken it, what should i memorize for the test? specific reactions? ill study all this stuff but there must be some that is high

Did you prepare for your diagnostic? I'm supposed to take mine the first day of my Kaplan class (in a week or so), but I haven't reviewed any material (my prep materials were sent to a different address). Is it common to try to prepare for the diagnostic or should it just be taken cold turkey? Any comments are appreciated.

I took mine basically cold turkey. OKAY a bit prepared for Verbal. i practiced a bit of EKs

but in all honesty you want to know what i got.

I got an 11 on verbal,
10 on PS and a 6 on BS

I GOT A 6 on my major! and you want to know why!? because i havent studied any muscular/neurological/embryoligical/ digestive/respiratory ETC! and i dont know anything about organic. atlest 15 questions were on organic!

all in all, after i study, i have a feeeling ill do better

Thanks. That 11 and 10 are great scores for a cold turkey test too. How early before the diagnostic did you prep for verbal??

hmm id say i was doing a few passages a few weeks before consistently, thats how i scored the 11.

and the thing about PS is taht im good at chem, physics im good at too! but some of the stuff on the diagonstic (which was AAMC 3) had to do with magnetism, DC and AC currents, and a few other things about physics 30 (grade 12 physics) which i ddint remember! so i'd probably had gotten an 11 if i knew that stuff.

you see, i can do verbal well, except for ones that seemingly make no sense such as pasage IX on test 9 of EK. Like i get MAYBE 1 wrong or rarely 2 wrong on most passages, but when it comes down to really hard ones, i get a fair amount wrong, which happens once per test!

ALL in all, i expect my PS to be around an 11-12, BS to be around an 11-12, ASSUMING i end up being good at organic, and verbal to be a 9-10.

verbal is tricky...all depends on which passages you get

Man,

review a bit, go over basics before your diagnostic, but DONT spend lots of time,

if i didnt review a bit before, i'd probably come up with a 25 which is still not bad.

but yeah just look over a BIT, (especially physics 30)

Yeah, I'll try. I'm just busy finishing up finals and I don't have my review materials with me. I just feel guilty not preparing at least a little beforehand. Hopefully more people will chime in tomorrow morning about preparing for it.

Whether or not to prepare for it is up to you. I didn't prepare for it so that I knew what I really actually knew. I got acceptable scores in PS and BS (both 11s) but a 7 in verbal. So with that I realized where I needed to work to bring up my score. By not preparing before the Diag I knew where I needed to devote my time. I would rather not spend too much time reviewing things that I know and understand and would rather work on what I really need to. I mean if you are going to obsessively study for everything then you can study for your Diag, but I only did a basic review of everything and then focused on areas where I felt weak which really minimized my studying.
