I came across these in the OS department at my school, does anyone know of a brand name/company that makes these, the handles are silver and gold and the tips of the forceps are embedded with diamonds, thanks
Although I've never used one of these special forceps, I'll admit I've run into more than a few instances where a little bit of extra "grip" on the tooth would have been advantageous. They might come in handy when the tooth is slightly smaller than the contours on other forceps so you end up with some excess sliding motion of the forcep on the tooth which doesn't help.
I would suggest trying them in school if you get a chance to see how they feel and to find out whether they might work better for you in certain clinical situations. If you find a long premolar for instance that likes to slip around in the universals, grab the diamond coated ones and see if that might help. Usually I'll just use a pedo uni instead in these cases, but because the forceps are smaller, it's a bit hard on the hands especially with more solid teeth.
And hey, if anything, you've got that "bling" factor with the fancy forceps, and that's gotta count for something in front of the patients. 👍
EDIT: BTW, learn how to use periotomes if you get a chance!
