... Do you think I should call Sallie Mae, get the letter on the right type of paper and just mail it in now specifying my application #? I already feel I'm cutting it too close...:xf:hopefully everything goes smoothly from here.

I imagine most people have no problems with them, it's just that they seem to really have some difficulty dealing with issues when they arise. When things go as they should, everything is great. When there is a problem... well, it seems to be a problem.

If you have that on the letterhead, I wouldn't worry about asking for anything else! Was the letterhead printed in color? It sounds like you have everything you need - they haven't printed my account number on the letter, and as of yesterday are telling me that they are unable to print my account number on that letter. You sound like you're in good shape with all that!

hopeful, this won't do you much good now, but if anyone is still dealing with visa issues and is near New York, Chicago, or LA, they are doing in-person appointments for Tier 4 student apps this summer only.

Thank you for this information. I've just e-mailed the NY Consulate to request my appointment.

And re: loans, I'm using J.P. Morgan Chase, with loans serviced by ASA. Granted, it's through the Federal Stafford and PLUS loans, and I'm not certain if they do private loans. But, within 5 days of having my loans certified by RVC, ASA had sent me confirmation of loan, on letterhead, sufficient for the visa. So, they're highly efficient - RVC actually recommends them as being familiar with international students, and the issues surrounding.

No, the letterhead wasn't in color🙁 I asked them for a new one on official letterhead just in case; that way if my application is denied at least I know I did everything I could to fix it. I also emailed the British consulate through 'world bridge' about the issue. The last time I had a question they responded by the next day.

It seems like when you call Sallie Mae, some people are very efficient to deal with, while others (like one I spoke with today) take about 20 min to try and figure out what you need, then end up transferring you to someone else because they can't figure it out. But the second person I spoke with was very helpful and said the letter would be here within 2-3 business days. I don't know why they can't print your account #, they put mine on the letter without an issue.

Now that Edinburgh sent us that email about visa problems (which would have been much more helpful about a month ago!), I see that a few other documents I sent along are not acceptable. Oh well, as long as they accept the letter from Sallie Mae and the visa letter from Edinburgh, I'll get the 40 points I need. But worst case scenario, I don't get the visa...what should I do? How am I going to go to school? :scared:

Is it possible to transfer from other vet school to Edinburgh?

I don't actually know! You would probably be best served to just email them quickly to find out for sure. Good luck!

Wow. 5 days. In my dreams! This is for the Stafford and PLUS loans as well, so...

Heck if I know!

Now, in fairness to Sallie Mae, I did receive a phone call today from a person I spoke to last week following up on this issue. Apparently they have a few students in the same boat - students telling Sallie Mae that we need a letter with information that their contact with the UK is telling them we don't need. They're trying to get that resolved, and she did say she will call me back tomorrow. (my inner conspiracy theorist ponders the fact that I post a tirade last night and get a phone call today, but that's just crazy...) However, she did say that they can't send out letters with account numbers on them without getting approval, so I don't know what is going on. hopefulvet, maybe I should just have you call them for me!

Right there with you! I'm trying not to stress about this, but it is nerve-wracking to think that I've come this far, and am on the verge of vet school, just to have something so simple keep me from it...

What number are you calling? Lol...I called this one: 1-888-272-5543 and they didn't give me any trouble. My email to the British embassy received a reply that did not answer my question of course. They basically just said if the right documents aren't there they will send it back to you without processing it. They didn't specify whether or not it would be okay to just send in the additional documentation separately 😕

I hate this. I'm not going to be able to get to vet school because a letter from Sallie Mae didn't have a colored logo or wasn't on special paper. :annoyed:

Yep, same number. 😕

Went home to check the mail. No letter today. <sigh>

Anyone have suggestions for Sept-May accomodation? I was planning on living in university accomodations for the first year, but the only postgrad housing available on a 37 week contract is in Morgan Court, which is on Holyrood Road, a fair ways from Summerhall. All the rest of the postgrad housing is on a 51 week contract; since I'm not planning on being there for the summer I'd rather not be locked into a 51 week contract. Sciennes / Blackwood Crescent would be perfect otherwise =/

PS - Tiempo, don't worry about the clothing. Howatt's is literally right across the street from the main campus and they keep everything vet & med students need in stock.

See you folks in Pollock in 5 weeks or so (assuming I get this Visa hassle sorted out).

I would think your best bet would be to rent a flat outside of the university accommodation system. You can find 6 month lets on flats, and then extend month to month in some places.

I'm not too worried about clothing, but since we get a 10% discount from Hewatt's with our student ID cards, I was kind of hoping to wait until I received my card to get my clothes. If we need the clothing on the 11th, I really don't want to leave it that late and then bet on my size in navy blue being in stock.

(ps. Still no letter, and the nice lady at Sallie Mae didn't call me back yesterday (or today). <sigh>)

That is horrible about the letter from Sallie Mae. This visa thing is a mess, and you would think there would be more support or an expedited version since you don't get visa letters until final transcripts are received. I too thought about going the UCLA in person route, but when I emailed Edinburgh to clarify what I needed as materials supporting the application, just to double check that I didn't need proof of a degree since I don't graduate until next spring, I heard back that 1)the admissions office thought I was graduating, and 2)offer to 4 year for 2013 revoked. They were nice enough to offer me a spot in the 5 year starting this fall or deferment until next fall.

So I guess I hope you all have fun over on the other side if the pond. I was hoping to join you, but maybe next year!

... and 2)offer to 4 year for 2013 revoked.

😱 🙁

I'm sorry badcats - that sucks horribly. Very sorry to hear that.

Are you going to defer to the four-year for next year, reapply to other schools, or do you not know yet?

Yikes.

Well they said I can defer to the four year of next year and still apply to other schools since it was kind of their mistake. This is my first full cycle (2009) so it will give me a chance to make some decisions rather than just being my impatient self and going. But thank you.

If nothing closer to home or that's better fit comes along I will most certainly be joining you all next fall.

Well, I suppose at least there won't be as much pressure this round for you.

Revoking my 'in fairness to Sallie Mae' post earlier. That was Tuesday I posted that, and I was told I would be getting a call back on Wednesday. It's Friday. No call. I tried calling the number of the "supervisor" I spoke with on Tuesday. They're closed today for the holiday.

Oh, and no letter in the mail either. No more mail until Monday now due to holiday.

😡

OMG, my heart rate is off the charts reading all of your visa issues!! Note to self: start early. I am certain you all will get it worked out! You didn't come this far to have it all fall to pieces.

I'm either visiting the end of this month or in September to take advantage of everyone being in school (i could meet y'all) and the open day.

Good luck guys, I'm on pins and needles for you!

Sorry, Badcats 😕

Why don't you defer and join me next year for GEP?? 😍

I wish you luck for this upcoming cycle and will be patiently watching to see how it all unfolds. :luck:

I'm nervous about my visa application too and finally getting back online and reading all the issues that you have all had... I'm terrified.... I sent all my documents in last week, and I'm waiting to hear... I hope it all goes well.... for all of us. :xf:

I got my visa last week thank god!😀 In retrospect the application process was not bad, I think just getting the correct letter from Sallie Mae is! I leave in exactly 2 weeks!

Congratulations!!! I hope I get some word from mine soon...
