Hi all,

I am an American-born FMG who applied to IM the second week of Oct. From what I've gathered from reading various threads around this website, is that this is pretty much suicide for an FMG. Furthermore, I have yet to take my Step 2, which, again from reading around here, is pretty imp for an IMG. My question is: have I done myself in? I don't know if this helps in answering the question but:
Step 1: 225/97
Step 2CK: Haven't written it-plan to take it next week.
Step 2Cs: P first attempt
AMCE: I've done rotations at respected programs. Have two (likely standard) LORs from these and one strong LoR from my med school(went to school in Ireland).
I also have US research experience and one publication and various ECs.

I've applied to 70+ programs, a mix of university and uni-affiliated community programs. So far I have received 10 rejection emails(all from very competitive uni programs, though) and one interview. All(with the exception of one-my only interview) of the places where I think I have a decent shot at, I have not heard from at all, either positive or neg.

Is there anything I can do to help my cause? Should I just be more patient? I'm getting a little desperate at this point.

Thanks very much!

Double the amount of programs you've applied to, if it's not too late. Also, call or email the PC's from programs you're interested in asking about your status. Not a whole lot else you can do.

It's the lack of Step 2 that's causing the problem. Taking it next week is way too late -- you won't get results until the end of Nov or beginning of Dec, and most programs will have finalized their choices by then.

Thanks for clearing that up.

aProgDirector--So basically there is nothing I can do except take the step 2 ASAP and...pray? Just trying to be 100% sure here, is all. Considering I get my results at the end of Nov.-do you have any idea of how many programs might be willing to extend an interview that late(percentage-wise)?

Thanks

Correct...there is nothing you can do at this point. As to how many programs might extend an interview, it's somewhere between 0-100% of the programs you applied to. That's an unanswerable question.

Are programs done with sending out interview invites? At this time would you say it's in the middle or late stretch of the interview invite ?

I think this is the "late" middle stretch part of the interview invitation season. Most programs have sent out invites already to those they want to interview. The interviewees that the program have on HOLD have either been notified, or will be invited when a spot opens. Other than that, I think maybe a few programs will offer invites for the first time in the next week or 2.
