I just had an interesting situation come up. As many of you have probably seen from one of my major threads in this forum, I had two interviews with CVS last month, one of which resulted in a job offer about ten days before Christmas. My DM and a few other people from HR went on vacation as expected and I did not hear anything back from anyone until last Wednesday.

Last Wednesday night, I received a call from my DM confirming the job offer and that I will be receiving an email from the company with all the pertinent forms and processes that must come to pass before I can start training. She also emailed me by Friday and asked me to be patient. So far, I still have NOTHING. I don't even have my official offer letter yet. The process is so painstakingly slow, it's ridiculous.

With the above in mind, today, I received a call from another one of the "big three" chains (i.e. think of the power system) and was offered an interview for next week. The person I spoke to quickly reviewed my resume/CV and towards the end of the conversation, she said she had an "important" question to ask and asked me if I had been working since I got licensed in August at a temp agency or anywhere else, and if not, why haven't I been working?

I was very frank with her and explained I have not been working, but that I had recently received a job offer with one of Walgreen's major competitors and would still accept her invitation to interview. She thanked me for my honesty. I also proceeded to explain that I have not worked simply because I have been trying since August to find a full-time pharmacist position in my desired location and have been unable to do so until recently. I told her I am a very persistent person and do not give up until I attain what I desire. I explained the market has changed for the worse nationwide, especially in my state, and that I personally have friends who moved away to another city or even out-of-state because of the lack of opportunities. But that I was unwilling to move. She acknowledged I was right and that they had no positions available in this part of the state until recently and that in the last 4-5 years, finding employment has become a challenge.

She then asked me if I knew any of my classmates working at Wags and I made reference to someone I know and said I know that former classmate pretty well. She seemed pretty enthusiastic, but I don't know if I did the right thing or not. Was I foolish in being so honest ? I'd appreciate some honest feedback. I may be many things, but one thing I am not is a liar and will not sugarcoat the truth. ALL feedback accepted.

I think that is a good explanation. I wouldn't trust CVS or Walgreens though. Keep on looking and good luck to you.

No worries, you did the right thing. You do not wanna start with lies, since that is your first job it is normal to be so worry. good luck. btw, what state you are?

I am not sure why you want the feedback. Of course telling the truth was the right thing to do. Even if everyone told you otherwise, would that change anything?

I hope CVS picks up the pace on highering you.

Well, I am just being cautious because I have read about how these companies are greedy, unethical, and lack integrity. I thought the truth/honesty is not something they probably value much (even though they may claim they do) and may actually hurt you in the end. Even Bmbiology said he wouldn't trust these companies. So, I prefer to err on the side of caution and wanted to know if telling the truth is acceptable or if I should have just said something else. But I'm glad to confirm I made the right move instead of a foolish one!
