Fail Step 2?

So it seemed like while I was studying at school, everybody who took Step 2 already at my school was like "ooooh, it was soooo much better than step 1."

Anyway, I've never failed anything before, I did above avg on step 1, went through all of uworld and fa for about 3 weeks...but walking out I was like "what was everyone talking about?"

Much like step 1, I marked/was unsure of atleast 12 questions per section (and up to significantly more), and I can think of no less than 10 dumb mistakes I made....

Did ANYONE else feel like this after? I'm relatively happy with my step 1 and held my scores, so I just wanna pass.....

Please baby J! 🙂

If you did above average on step 1 and passed all of your shelf exams, it is basically inconceivable that you failed step 2 ck. Being unsure of 12 questions per section is actually very good. Dumb mistakes happen, if you made 10, that will be a <3% dumb mistake rate, which is ok. Best to shoot for <2% dumb mistakes, but hey, say la vee.

did anybody else have a simliar feeling after, and do fine/well on step 2?

I know many people had my above described experience with step 1 - but what about step 2?

Rule # 1 for medical school and residency = Trust no one.

I will seriously hear people say... oh I just studied for a 3 days before the test and made a 270/99.

All in all, you have to take it over again. Hit it hard.

I NEVER have a good feeling after taking these exams.

I didn't find out I failed...I just took it yesterday....I'm just asking about other's experiences, and kinda freaking out after the experience I had.......I'm really hoping I don't have to take it again!!!

What were your scores/percentages like on NBME practice tests and world?

It is pretty tough to fail it IMO if you are a good student at an american school and did well on your shelfs and during rotations. Now not doing as well as you hoped is a whole other ball game.

Stupid artificial boards are stupid and artificial. You probably studied less for Step 2 and felt the same as you did for Step 1.

Study 7 weeks and get a 230 on step 1, Study for 3 weeks and get a study on step 2. See "how much easier it is?"

I'll work on my reading comprehension

People oftentimes do not feel well after the exam. Sit tight for 3 weeks.

It's not like they were all dumb (the mistakes I can think of) - it's just very unsettling to know off the top of my head that I can think of 10-12 that I got wrong already - off the top of my head!!! - and I just took it two days ago!

is this all normal? i know it was for step 1....

I took it the same day you did, and it sounds like you had a much better experience that I did! If you only missed 12 questions per section, you probably killed it. I came out of it feeling really depressed, to be honest, I felt like toward the end everything was just a blur!

Hopefully we will both be pleasantly suprised in 3 weeks

I didn't feel very good at all when I walked out of the exam (August 26). I felt like there were at least 8-12 per section that I was unsure of the answer. I knew I didn't fail because I took so many NBMEs and stuff, but I thought I would be lucky to break 230 (or worse). I was pleasantly (and incredibly) surprised when I got my score back...262. I had actually felt much better about my step 1 when I walked out (226).

I guess my concern is that I can remember like 20 questions from the test that I was concerned about, and I think I got 12 of those wrong!!

And I was still unsure about, as I said, 12-15/section still!

But it sounds like my feelings are/were normal...

Amen brother. I had an exam this morning and was going over some notes. My classmate says "you need to quit studying, sheesh". This is the same person who claims she hasn't studied for anything yet somehow miraculously can spew all the minutiae in 5 seconds.

I have to agree with this. The last 2 sections were just fuzzy. The test is lonnnng.

Thanks guys - I'm feeling quite a bit better - feel like maybe I freaked out a little - just one last question to ask since you guys seem pretty friendly....

Obviously it's still just 2 questions and I certainly can't change it now - but it definitely screwed me up when it happened - did ANYBODY else do the same thing I did, which is get 2/2 wrong on the ones where you pretty much find out right away whether you got it right or not (you know, the ones where you have to answer one before you can see the next part?)? That pissed me off mid-test soooo much!

i'm with you on this. took mine on friday and kept getting those 2/2 ones wrong. it totally brings down the morale in the middle of the exam. did we just get a terrible batch of questions last week? i certainly felt like crap after my test on friday. anyone else that took their's friday please share your opinions. knowing that others felt the same way might actually put me at ease!

Hey batmaan. Just wanted to say you probably did fine. I remember mapping out like 50+ questions i had no idea on post exam but did more than fine. Just remember there are 400 or so, its hard to get a feel for how many you diddnt know. I can tell you that alhough i took the osteopathic step 2 most of the people that thought they did well or rocked it did much worse than they expected. The people that were cautious and worried when they came out were pleasently suprised when they got their grades. Their is def something to be said for overconfidence on exams and getting your expectations too high. I think you'll be happy when you get your final score.

I just took my ck today, and there were 2 questions that were really easy, that I blanked on and picked the wrong answer (these were really easy..the kind of questions you kick yourself cause it was SO easy)...it was toward the end when I was just really tired. And its freaking me out cause I'm thinking how many other super easy questions did I screw up? So you are not alone. We should just take deep breaths and realize we've done well so far...and we've probably made tons of stupid mistakes along the way and it hasn't held us back so far.
good luck!

In addition to all that everyone else has said, I'll add my own experience:

I honestly felt worse leaving the test center following CK than I did following Step 1, yet my score ended up being higher. This seems to be a really common experience.
