Did very bad as compared to what I normally do in med school... I passed but not how i wanted to.

Hey all MS1 DO student here. Just finished MSK.... I got a 78 in the class, kinda due to not doing well on the first exam.
I mean I usually don't do that bad I usually get mid 80s - 90s but MSK is pretty much my weakest field.

I mean sorta disappointed that I didn't get that B, But at least I passed. I know the saying 70 gets you the DO but still kinda disappointed. I know probably won't hurt me long turn but this doesn't help my confidence. But it does because in my worst subject I almost got a B... Not too shabby for someone who stinks in MSK. I usually do great in CV, Resp, GI, etc, anything non MSK.

Any advice from upper classmates and beyond?
Why did you do poorly on that exam? How can you prevent this from happening again?
I understand wanting to do well, and you have done well! But you're not a pre-med anymore, your grades don't define who you are as a person and so, you don't need to beat yourself up. Just do better this semester.

you got a 78 and what did the rest of the class get?
as long as you're around the middle of the pack you're fine.

I give this story of yours a C+.
Lol, you fail empathy, but you pass the internet!

OP, I have a couple of those myself, your in DO school now, most people don't get straight A's anymore. Let that mentality go, you are more than the sum of your GPA and grades. As long as its passing, its good. When you get a 69 (and not the good kind) thats when you feel bad.

That is real advice. Can your whining change your grade? You passed the class, which is what matters. We all have weaknesses and strengths.
@AlbinoHawk DO’s just happens to be empathy.

Jk. Upperclassmen I’ll have less empathy because of how little preclinical grades mean and we’ve seen that after getting our boardscoee breakdowns back.

You will only match into nursing now.

I know how you feel OP and I can go on and on about my personal feelings about it, but I'm not. I'm going to seek some help from my school to identify my test taking problems. I might even use it to just vent a bit to a counselor/upper classman tutor. Give it a try?

Congrats on doing below average on the least tested subject on the boards... and frankly in practice.
