I'll be reapplying this cycle. I was wondering if I need to get new letters of recommendations and from whom. I believe my letters from the first cycle were at least okay since I landed 5 interviews at some solid schools.

I was able to get in touch with one science professor, one non-science professor (who was also my PI), one extracurricular supervisor, and 1 dentist and have them just update my letter. They also submitted letters during my initial cycle. I don't know if they redrafted it or just changed the date up top but they will at least be recent in terms of when they were submitted.

I am unable to get in touch with 3 other writers. 1 is no longer there and 2 don't know me too well and I was in their classes a looong time ago. They won't follow up with me anyways.

Do I need to get letters from any new people (who didn't write a letter for me in the past) or can I just update some existing ones as I'm doing now? Is it an issue if I can't update all existing ones?

I took a year in between applying and felt like I should get new letters, so I did. I know I have read from different school websites that you can re-use prior ones. One of my letters was from a person who wrote one the first time, and the others were from new people.
