Did you guys fill out "Disadvantaged Status" on AADSAS application?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am a Korean and have been here for 6 years. I have a green card (permanent resident). I have pretty good scores for all DAT sections besides RC (17).

Should I put myself as disadvantaged? Will it help me with my low RC score or expose my low RC even more?
I came to the US 6 and half years ago too. I do not know what others think, but learning a new language is not easy. RC is always my struggle bc of my weak English.
I got 11,13,15 on the ACT reading in high school. And I practiced so hard on that DAT RC, I only scored a 17....

@springlove123 I think financial issues would qualify you as a disadvantaged. I, too, was an immigrant and came here without knowing any english but that was 14 years ago. I still have problems with English but I just keep working at it. For example, when I took the MCAT 2 years ago I made 11+ in all of the sections except for my verbal...which was 6. So I buckled down, got a tutor, and read alot of articles. By the time, I have to take the DAT I was ready and scored a 22 in RC. Which was surprisingly high for me (go ahead and laugh you native English-speakers).

That is very good for you. 🙂
I am not trying to be mean or anything. But 14 years vs 6 1/2 years are a BIG difference...

Never said it wasn't haha. Just saying it's still a problem for me.

So.. at the risk of looking like an idiot I am going to ask one that hasn't been asked yet...

I was thinking of filling out the disadvantaged status portion because I think there is part of my academic history that puts my application at a disadvantage. It would be nice to have the extra 4,500 characters to explain, as I have a lot more to say in my personal statement than what I went through.

After a bout of depression and a severe eating disorder I flunked out of university 10 years ago... I left, got a career, got healthy and decided to face the music and went back to school three years ago. It has been a journey, but I have built myself back up and have been on the Dean's list the last few semesters. After talking to counsellors at my school they encouraged me to see if the "old" university would drop the marks from my academic record, especially because I have records of seeking out help during this time and received nothing. They refused and said it is "an important part of the path in my academic journey."

I am not "disadvantaged," I just went through a very difficult time in my life, the fallout of which is now in the record books.

I want to make the most of this and I have worked my butt off to get where I am, I don't want to loose out on a place because of where I was 10 years ago.
