Ativan:
Pharmacology: Anti-anxiety, benzodiazepine.
Indications: Insomnia, anxiety, agitation, alcohol withdrawal, status epilepticus.
Contraindicated: Alcohol intoxication, glaucoma, & CNS depression. Caution w/ liver & renal impairment.
Dosage: Status epilepticus: 4 mg/dose IV may repeat 10-15 min for max of 8 mg Q 12H.
Anxiety: 0.5 to 2 mg IV q 6-8H.
Alcohol withdrawal: 2-5 mg IV.
Considerations: Can also be absorbed IM. Do not administer IV faster than 2 mg/min effects of the drug may be delayed.
ADR: Sedation, dizziness, weakness, ataxia, nausea, withdrawal syndrome, respiratory depression.
Insulin:
Pharmacology: Regulate glucose metabolism.
Indications: Hyperglycemia, Diabetic Keto-Acidosis & Hyperkalemia.
Contraindicated: Hypoglycemia, caution w/ liver & renal impairment.
