I don't know why, but I'm going to go ahead and start a did you know thread.

So here's today:
Did you know there are physician dentists?
In fact, the 2010 MGMA compensation survey asked 74 of them about their salary. The median salary is about $180,000.

wow , interesting ! thanks for this important information 🙂

Did you know most neurosurgery residencies are actually 7 years? 6 is a common misconception. A simple search through FREIDA (a national database of residency programs) will show that most programs have a required duration of 7 years.

Did you know... Pluto's not a planet anymore.
Wha- super old news? Not related to medicine? I don't know what you're talking about. (That's the best I can do off the top of my head)

Seriously, the only interesting facts I know without looking them up are about art... and even then, it's just technique or niche things. Like...

Did you know... there are active rings of ball jointed doll traders. The dolls take weeks to months to complete and the typical price for a new mass produced doll is between $200-$500. The limited editions/OoaKs can sell for upwards of $1000 each. There are also people who run their own "faceup" shops where they are paid to repaint the face makeup or whole body of another person's BJD. Ridiculous? Yes. Lucrative? Looks like it from the outside.

(the BJD community is not one I'm involved in, but I admire their work. ...Not their drama though.)

Did you know that mouse brains outlive their bodies? So now humans are trying to figure out why to possibly find a way to help cure neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinsons.

Yes. They are called Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons. They deal with complicated extractions, and facial reconstruction.

How come the MGMA report has both Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and Dentists?

Well Dentists have the DMD/DDS degree while the OMFS has both the DMD/DDS and MD degree OR just a DMD/DDS w/ a 4 year residency as opposed to a 6 year residency which includes the last 2 years of medical school after dental school to complete the MD before doing specialty training.

They are probably listed separately because they are 2 different specialties. Even though dentists aren't required to complete the MD degree, they usually do the 1st-2nd year of medical school in dental school (the two often interlace).
