I still haven't finished my personal statement and was wondering if it's necessary to send your personal statement to whom ever gives you a recommendation.

did anyone here send a copy of their personal statement to their evaluator? Is this standard practice?

Thanks!!

i sent one just so that my evaluator had some more information they could write on me. i figured it couldn't hurt.

do you think it's required?

I'm getting pretty close to some january 1st deadlines, that's why i'm concerned about it.

Of course it's not required, but you want them to have as must information about you so they can craft the best letter. I gave my recommenders my personal statement and resume.

I too sent my recommenders my resume and my personal statement. Recommenders love it when the student sends them those things so they will have something to go on. You might fair off almost as well if you just send a resume and a list of some of your achievements that you would like them to emphasize.

Depending on how well you know your recommender (and how well they know you and your reasons for applying to pharmacy schools,) it's not a bad idea. Usually people writing recommendations are writing more than one letter a week, and it's good if they can write something that is unique about you and is pertinent to your experience and what you have done so far.

Otherwise, (through no fault of their own,) they end up using the same phrases in the letter that they did for the other person who applied to _______ School, right?

I think the resume/CV is much more helpful to the recommender than a personal statement is. The list of achievements/activities/extracurric. is also a good idea. You basically want to give your recommender plenty of ammunition to vouch for you.

I didn't send my personal statement to any of my recommenders, since I haven't finished mine either! I sent my resume, printed off the extracurricular and work pages from the Pharmcas, and wrote a cover letter describing my occupational intent (oh...and when I would like them to get the letter finished - that's important to give them a deadline). I hope this helps and good luck with the PS, I know I am sure struggling with this!

instead of my personal statement, i gave my letter writers a 1-page extensive list of my activities, awards, and extracurriculars, to give them a more variety of things to write about, along with my resume. i made sure i covered the important stuff and wrote down EVERYTHING i was involved with so they can write about it in my LOR. good luck! cheers! =D

Oh shoot, it looks like most people did.

It's already the 6th of December and finals week is next week. I'm asking really late for a recommendation that will be due on January 1st!!

Does anyone think it will look really bad if i don't send my personal statement?

Thanks!

No it won't look bad, just make sure they know why you want to go to pharmacy school. They need to know that you have strong reasons and goals. It is imperative that they know your extracurricular/work activities, so make sure to include that as well. Good luck!
