Did you send out your FAFSA?

I was wondering approximately how many SDNers have filled out the form and sent it off. Does anyone know how long it takes to process? Also, when do we get the money(loancheck)? I know we should get it before school starts, right?

Mark 🙂

I have done absoltely nothing with FAFSA, I am on a few waitlists and am waiting for 3 post interview responses. SoI am not so inspired to fill it out now, but I really should. Also, I am in south america now so I really hope I can take care of this online. Recall: March 15th is the due date right?

Any info if this can be done fully online?
thanks

i have sent off all the financial aid stuff.

you can do the entire FAFSA online. The one thing that'll slow you down is getting a pin number. make sure you get that now, cause thy have to mail it out to you.

i'm hoping to get some big fat grants.

Hi dirtyone,

The FAFSA can most definitely be filled out online, at www.fafsa.ed.gov. However, you DO need to make sure that you have the necessary documents on hand, i.e., 1040's, W2's, etc, both for yourself and for your parents.

The FAFSA can actually be filled out anytime between now and July. . . BUT, each individual school has its own deadline, which is usually sometime in March. I know that several schools, including Yale, had a March 1 deadline, even though decision letters will not be mailed out until the end of the month.

I hope that this helps! 🙂 (btw, what are you doing in South America? Anything exciting? 🙂 )

I finished my FAFSA on Friday. You don't necessarily need your parents' info at all, since checking the box that says you're going to med school makes you automatically classified as independent. However, many schools ask for that info to determine your eligibility for institutional awards. If you can get your hands on a copy of the paper form, you can just ask the folks for the specific numbers. That's what I did, since my parents had to do a FAFSA for my brother. (The paper and online forms are identical.)

Also, your pin does NOT have to be mailed to you. I got mine online about 3 days after filling out the online form requesting it. Oh, and I also recall it saying that once you submit the form, processing should take no longer than 3 days.

Hope that helps.

i submitted it last week and got my SAR the next day!! very impressive 😀

Yeah, but what did it say in the SAR ?
For example I got mine the next day too, but it's just like a summary of all the information I entered. It doesn't say how much loan and types of loans I qualify for... Is that calculated by the individual school at a later time ??? I'm confused... Help someone.
