Did you use the same PS for DO as you did for MD?

I am just about finishing up my DO PS. I'm maxxed at about 4500 words, although the entire last paragraph, (about 700 words) is devoted to explaining why I find DO appealing.

Obviously I would eliminate that paragraph from my MD PS, but that would bring my word count down to about 3700, and the max for MD is 5300. Should I still use this or add more to my PS?? I am not so sure what else to add...I already covered a personal experience, how it made me interested with medicine, what qualities I have that make me good for medicine, etc...

I'd save the why DO portion for your secondaries, which almost always ask that. I used the same essay for MD/DO apps, I had to cut out a few lines to make it fit the DO character limit though.

Isn't it characters, not words. 4500 words is like 8-10 single spaced pages.

My PS was at the cutoff for the MD app. For the DO app, I basically just cut the paragraph before my conclusion and was golden.

I used pretty much the same PS. My MD one was over 4500 characters so I had to cut it down a bit for DO but it had pretty much the same content.

My PS was the same. I think I had to make it shorter for the DO one because of the character limit. I addressed "why medicine", not "Why MD or why DO".

I will be using the same one. I haven't submitted AMCAS yet.

I used the same one. I kept it to one page. I find that anything greater than one page results in a loss of interest and skimming anyway. I had about 5 revisions before my story and overall flow was where I wanted it to be. No mention of allopathic/osteopathic needed.

For my AMCAS application I took out my paragraph where I talked about why I want to go into osteopathic medicine and replaced it by talking more in depth about my research experiences.

I have a question though...

In my last paragraph I talk about how important it is to take into account all components of the body, including mental, emotional and physical when treating illness. I attempted to skew it towards a DO philosophy, but then I realized, that MD's do practically the same thing?

Would it be OK, then, to use this PS for MD as well?

The ps is it 500 words ?

No, the PS's are measured by characters (including spaces, returns, skipped lines, etc.) For AACOMAS it is limited to 4500 characters and for AMCAS it is 5300.

I'd say so, as long as you don't say anything about how you specifically want to go into osteopathic medicine on your AMCAS, haha.
